Animal Care Management Tuition: Now You Can Learn It From Anywhere

For 35 years, I've been the person collections call when something needs to be set right — a licensing inspection looming, a record system in a mess, a keeper team that needs to be brought up to standard. The work has taken me into zoos, wildlife parks and open farms across the UK and beyond, and I've spent most of that time handing over what I know in the moment, on site, between inspections and training days.

Now I'm doing something I've wanted to do for a while: teaching it properly, one person at a time, from anywhere in the world.

Why now?

The animal industry has a quiet problem that nobody talks about enough. There are brilliant, committed keepers and collection owners who have no one to learn from. They work in small collections, or open farms, or start out with passion and a reference book and very little else. They want to do the job well — in animal welfare and in management — but the person who could show them how is hours away, or costs more than a small site can find.

Remote tuition changes that. It means a keeper in a rural collection, or a new open-farm owner, or someone considering a career in animal care can sit down with 35 years of zoo and animal-industry experience without leaving their own gate. The distance disappears. What remains is the knowledge.

What the tuition covers

This is not a series of animal facts. It is the working knowledge of how to run an animal establishment properly. Depending on what you need, sessions cover:

  • Animal care management — husbandry, welfare standards, and the daily discipline of keeping animals well

  • Zoo keeping practice — the craft of the job, from record-keeping to enrichment to enclosure awareness

  • Preparation for licensing and inspections — what an inspector is actually looking for, and how to have the evidence ready

  • Record systems and Species 360 / ZIMS support — the part that trips up even experienced operators

  • Legislation and standards — the UK framework you are working within, explained in plain English

  • Team management and training — because a collection is only as strong as its people

Each session is built around you. You bring the questions, the gaps, the thing you've been worried about. I bring 35 years of having seen it before.

The offer, in plain terms

  • Single session: £45 per hour

  • Block of five sessions: £200 for five 1-hour sessions over five weeks — a saving of £25

All sessions are delivered remotely, wherever you are in the UK or beyond. We arrange the first session around your schedule and build a plan that works across the five weeks.

Who this is for

  • Keepers who want to develop into senior or management roles

  • Open-farm and collection owners who need practical support without the cost of on-site consultancy

  • New entrants to the animal industry who want a mentor rather than a textbook

  • Anyone preparing for a licensing inspection or upgrading their records

Why learn from me

I've spent 35 years in the world this tuition teaches. I've worked inside collections as a practitioner and alongside them as a consultant, supporting zoos, wildlife parks and open farms with welfare, licensing, records and training. I know what the standards expect, and I know the parts of the job that are never written down. My aim now is to pass that on to people who are ready to learn it.

The industry has always been built on people teaching people. I want to do my part — and I want it to be available to anyone who is serious about the work, wherever they are.

Book your first session today through the private tuition page, and let's make your next step in animal care the strongest one you've taken.
